So far there have been no major foreign films in competition that will
sweep to American screens and warm the heart and souls of audience such
as last year's "Secrets
and Lies" and "Cinema Paradiso" of several years before.
Bit two worthwhile films shown in competition that may well make it to US
art houses are Australia's "The Well"
and Canada's "The Sweet Hereafter."
