1997 Cannes Film Festival Diaries
Day 2: Let The Games Begin

by Cari Beauchamp

There we are again -- the first screening of the first film in competition at the 50th Cannes.Back in that fabulous theater with over 2,000 cushioned seats and a screen that puts the Ziegfeld to shame. Its 8:30 in the morning but a hush comes over the packed the theater as we hear those familiar words, "Ladies and Gentlemen, the cinema commence..." The lights go down and you could hear a pin drop - still, the excitement is palpable over what magic awaits."
