"The Stars Fell on Henrietta"

A meandering slice of Americana that's brightened considerably by Robert Duvall's performance. Set in Depression-era Texas, where hard luck outweighs hard work any day, the movie is about a wandering wildcatter named Mr. Cox (Duvall) and his dream of finding oil. He thinks he's found it in a dusty field belonging to Don and Cora Day (Aidan Quinn and Frances Fisher). But has he finally struck it rich or has he struck out yet again? The movie could use some goosing and it lacks focus. But Duvall gives a juicy portrayal as a peculiarly all-American kind of con artist/dreamer, a man who fell for his own pitch long ago.
