"An Awfully Big Adventure," Mike Newell's darkly seductive look backstage at a Liverpool repertory theatre company just post World War II. Some may be lured by the presence of current hot item Hugh Grant, as the bitingly charismatic director, but it's Alan Rickman who walks off with hearts *and* minds here as the circuit's legendary star and equally legendary seducer. And if I left the film's young newcomer, Georgina Cates, off the list of notable performances by actress earlier, I apologize here. She's translucently fine.
