JIM CARREY, who stars as Fletcher Reede in Liar Liar, has created
some of the most popular and entertaining characters in modern film history.
His five previous films, Ace Ventura: Pet Detect ive, The Mask, Batman Forever,
Dumb and Dumber and Ace Ventura: When Nature (:alls have all conquered the
international box office, with the last four each exceeding the $100 million
mark in domestic grosses alone. With the release of last year's The Cable
Guy, Carrey's worldwide box office has exceeded the $1 billion mark. The
actor's gifts are a unique combination of improvisation, mimicry and innovation
with an outrageous style of physical comedy that has captured the attention
of film audiences throughout the world.
Carrey has taken an unusual path to film stardom, beginning professionally
as a sta nd-up comedian and finding success on American television before
breaking through into motion pictures with the blockbuster hit Ace Ventura:
Pet Detective in 1994.
Carrey was born in Newmarket, Ontario, Canada and began performing in Toronto
comedy clubs at age 15. He decided to move to Los Angeles in 1981 and soon
became a regular performer at the famed Comedy Store. The next year he won
a starring role on the NBC series Duck Factory and moved into film work
with his first starring role opposite Lauren Hutton in the vampire comedy
Once Bitten. Several more roles followed in the films The Dead Pool, Earth
Girls Are Easy and Peggy Sue Got Married.
He then juggled film and television work with comedy performances, starring
as the alcoholic son of a dysfunctional family in the Fox drama Doing Time
On Maple Drive and joining the ensemble cast of the Fox Network hit series
in Living Color. During his years on this popular series, Carrey created
numerous memorable characters, including the strangely destructive Fire
Marshal Bill. He also starred in the Showtime Special Jim Carrey 's Unnatural
Act, which highlighted his stand-up comedy routines.
After the success of Dumb and Dumber in 1995, Carrey was voted NATO/ShoWest
Comedy Star of The Year and Dumb and Dumber was voted Favorite l:ilm by
the People's Choice Awards. That same year, Carrey was nominated for the
People's Choice Award for Favorite Actor in a Comedy Motion Picture, an
honor he won that year for Ace Ventura: When Nature Calls. Carrey has been
nominated for several other major awards, including the Golden Globe Award
for The Mask and multiple MTV Movie Award nominations.
MAURA TIERNEY (Audrey Reede) comes to Liar Liar, having already won
the affection of television audiences as Lisa Miller on NBC's hit comedy
series NewsRadio.
She recently wrapped production on the romantic comedy, The Broadway Brawler,
starring opposite Bruce Willis and is about to start production for Universal
Pictures on director Mike Nichols' version of the best selling novel, Primary
Colors, starring John Travolta and Emma Thompson.
Her previous fllm credits include Primal Fear, The Temp, Fly By Night, White
Sands and The Linguini Incident.
On television, she appeared in the critically acclaimed movie Out Of Darkness
and such series as The Van Dyke Show and 704 Ha user Street. She attended
NYU's Circle in the Square Theatre School.
JUSTIN COOPER (Max Reede) makes his motion picture debut in Liar
Liar. Cooper was a series regular on the television series The Boys Are
Back. He has also appeared in various television series including Full House,
Boy Meets World and E.R. He has appeared in the mini-series Every Knee Shall
Bow and is currently a recurring character on the ABC soap opera General
Hospital.
JENNlFER TILLY (Samantha Cole) received both an Academy Award®
nomination and an American Comedy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actress
for her role as Olive in Bullets Over Broadway.
Tilly's most recent feature film credits include Bound, House Arrest and
The Wrong Guy Among her other film credits are The Getaway Made in America,
Shadow of the Wolf Scorchers, The Fabulous Baker Boys, Moving Violations,
No Small Affair, High Spirits and Let It Ride.
On television, she starred in the Fox series Key West with Fisher Stevens
and the CBC series Shaping Up with Leslie Nielsen. She starred in Showtime's
Heads with Jon Cryer, for which she received a Gemini Award nomination for
Best Actress. She also had recurring roles on Hill Street Blues and The
Garry Shandling Show (for which she received a Cable ACE Award nomination).
Her other television appearances include Moonlighting, ('he ers, Dream On
and Edie and Penn.
Tilly won a Theater World Award for her work in Tina Howe's play One Shoe
Off at the Joseph Papp Theater. Her other stage work has included Boy 's
Life, Tart uffe, Baby With The Bath water, The Wool Gatherers and Vanities,
for which she received a Dramalogue Award.
CARY ELWES (Jerry) most recent films include the soon to be released
Kiss The Girls opposite Morgan Freeman and Ashley Judd and the international
blockbuster hit Twister.
A native of England, Fiwes first captured the public's attention in the
hit film The Princess Bride. Lie followed that success with a string of
popular films including Glory, Days of Thunder, Hot Shots, Bram Stoker's
Dracula, The Crush and Robin Hood: Men In Tights.
Elwes made his screen debut in Another Country. He was later chosen by Trevor
Nunn, head of the Royal Shakespeare Company to play opposite Helena Bonham
Carter in the film Lady .Jane.
Elwes' television credits include Showtime's upcoming film Field of Blood.
AMANDA DONOHOE (Miranda) won a Golden Globe Award for her role as
C.J. Lamb on television's L.A. Law.
Donohoe's most recent film credits include the soon to be released Mike
Figgis l'ilm One Night Stand, Visionaires and The Madness of King George.
She made her feature film debut in the English comedy Foreign Body Her other
feature film credits include Castaway Ken Russell's Lair of the White Worm
and The Rainbow, Dark Obsession and Paper Mask
Donohoe's television credits include the mini-series The Thorn Birds: The
Missing Years, Shame: The Secret (Lifetime Television Premiere) and It 's
Nothing Personal for NBC, both of which she executive produced and starred.
Born in London, England, Donohoe performed at the Manchester Royal Exchange
Theatre, one of England's most prestigious classical theatre companies.
She recently appeared on Broadway starring in Uncle Vanya, for which she
was nominated for an Outer Critics Circle for Best Debut on Broadway.
SWOOSIE KURTZ (Dana Appleton), both a Tony and Emmy award winner,
was most recently acclaimed for her role as Alex in the long-running television
series Sisters.
Her feature film credits include Citizen Ruth, Baja Oklahoma, The Band Played
On, Stanley & Iris, Against All Odds, Dangerous Liasons, Bright Lights,
Big City The World According To Garp and Reality Bites.
Kurtz's other television credits include her award-winning performance in
And the Band Played On, Little Girls in Pretty Boxes, the HBO movie The
Positively True Adventures of the Alleged Cheerleading Murdering Mom and
the upcoming Harvey.
