An old couple marry and live on the river, where their niece Melitta is rescued by Antonio. Carolina is desperate with jealousy and seizes the opportunity to discover the secret of Melitta which a gypsy goldsmith has seen before fleeing. Carolina is determined to become the gypsey's mistress to get to the secret.
