Xiao Shuai, a bookseller, pines with desire for An Hong, a beautiful, liberated, sexy young woman, but she is already going out with an influential "nouveau riche". Lao Zhang, a researcher, accidentally gets involved in their conflict. The result is neatly summed up in the advice given by a policeman: "If countries can find a way to sit down and negociate, why can't you?"
