"Surprise is the key to fresh comedy, and we worked hard to repeatedly defy expectations in a story that is essentially about the variety of sexual embarrassments, the odd nature of commitment, and the ludicrous fantasy of an ideal family. The road aspect allows the film to city-surf and family-surf clicking from one psycho-cultural-political pocket of America to another.
