In Lars Von Trier's musical drama "Dancer in the Dark",a young Czech immigrant (played by Icelandic songbird Björk) moves to America in the 1960's. She finds escape from her mundane life as a factory worker and single mother in the Hollywood musicals that she loves. Her ability to get lost in the magic of these films whisks her away from her hard life. Things take a dark turn as it is found that she and her 10-year-old son both suffer from a condition that may eventually make them lose their eyesight.
