At Avery Fisher Hall:

Orphans Of The Storm

We are proud to present the world premiere of the Museum of Modern Art's restoration of the immortal classic directed by D.W. Griffith. In this sweeping historical spectacle, Lillian and Dorothy Gish play two sisters separated by the frenetic chaos of the French Revolution. Never was Griffith's amazing ability to stage crowd scenes more assured, nor his mixture of historical fact, fiction and fantasy more sensational. With Gillian Anderson conducting the Brooklyn Philharmonic Orchestra. 143 minutes, USA, 1922. 29F. Mon. September 29 at 8:00 pm.

Marcello Mastroianni, I Remember...

With abundant quantities of charm, wit and thoughtful introspection, Mastroianni looks back and digs deeply into his life and his work. Shattering the loathed stereotype of the melancholy, irresistible Latin lover, he brings vivacity, intelligence and modesty to this delightful memoir, gently guided by director Anna Maria Tato, his companion for the last 22 years. Humorous and affectionate anecdotes of Garbo, Visconti, Ferreri and Fellini are enhanced by childhood memories, enthusiasms for Duke Ellington and Hollywood films and by screen tests and rarely seen film clips. A rare opportunity to see this extraordinary tribute to one of the screen's greatest artists. 3 hours, 20 minutes. Italy, 1997. 12A. Sun. October 12 at 3:00 pm.

At The Walter Reade Theater:

Year Of The Horse

Jim Jarmusch delivers a crank-it-up, hold-on-to-your seats rock'n'roll concert movie featuring Neil Young and his band Crazy Horse on their 1996 Year of the Horse tour. Laced with scrapbook images, interviews from the past and present, and hallucinatory Jarmuschian landscapes-on-the-fly, HORSE generates primal myth out of epic, guitar driven music. 110 minutes. USA, 1997. An October Films Release. 4RA. Sat. October 4, 7 pm. 4RB. Sat. Octber 4, 9:30 pm. 4RC. Sat. October 4 at midnight.

The Kingdom, Part 2

Lars von Trier (Breaking the Waves) returns with four new episodes of a riotous combination of medical thriller, ghost story and hot-house melodrama. Set in an ultra-modern hospital built on a graveyard, the new episodes detail the effects on the hospital and its eccentric denizens of the continuing invasion by the unquiet ghosts of the past. See the first four episodes (now on video) if you can, but very little background is needed to become immersed in the wonderfully lunatic world of THE KINGDOM. 279 minutes. Denmark, 1997. An October Films Release. 12RA. Sun. October 12, 2 pm. 12RB. Sun. October 12, 7 pm.
