Awards

The Hamptons International Film Festival was created to provide a forum for filmmakers from around the world who express an independent vision. To encourage young filmmakers and to recognize excellence, the Festival offers a slate of awards.

AUDIENCE AWARD
Based on audience balloting, this award is presented to the Most Popular Film, Best Director, Best Documentary Feature and Best Short film in the Festival.

DISTINGUISHED ACHIEVEMENT AWARD
This year's recipient is Oscar-winning director John Schlesinger

GOLDEN STARFISH AWARD
A curated selection of American independent films will introduce the work of newly emerging filmmakers. A jury of film industry professionals and film critics will select the winning director of the Festival's Golden Starfish Award and present the recipient with a package of goods and services totaling over $100,000.

The following companies have generously provided contributions to this award: Silvercup Studios, Panavision, Kaufman Astoria Studios, Feature Systems, New York on Location, Kodak Motion Picture Products, Central Props, Props for Today, CECO, Media Services, M. Epstein's Son, Tribeca Film Center, Cinema World Studios, Lifestyles Transportation, Arenson Office Furnishings, REI Media Group, Studio Akiva, Raw Space.

Additional components of the award will be announced before the Festival.

STUDENT SCHOLARSHIP AWARDS
The Student Scholarship Awards, totaling $25,000 in cash prizes, are presented to 10 outstanding film students whose works will be presented at the Festival. A special prize, sponsored by RKO Pictures, is awarded to the graduate student film selected as being the best example of cinematic storytelling

DOCUMENTARY AWARD
New this year, a special jury prize, sponsored by the Eastman-Kodak Company will be awarded to the Best Documentary in this year's new section DOCUMENTARIES: TRUTH WITH AN ATTITUDE.

SHORT FILM AWARD
Also new this year, a special jury prize sponsored by Gagosian Gallery, New York and Los Angeles, will be awarded to the Best Short Subject in this year's Festival.
