As an experiment, Film Scouts and Bellcore will transmit
interviews and other video programming from the 1998 Cannes Film
Festival over the
MBone.
The video segments are produced as part of the
coverage of the Cannes Film Festival by
FilmScouts produced by Mayra
Langdon Riesman.
The broadcasts will run every evening from 8pm until 4am Eastern
Daylight Time, starting on May 6th with the Film Scouts Cannes
Retrospective. As the festival goes on, new segments will be added to
the broadcast.
Getting started

- What network connection do I need to receive CannesCast

- Audio: transmitted at about ?? Kbit/s
- Video: transmitted at about 128 Kbit/s
- In other words: You're out of luck if you have a modem
bandwidth of 28.8 or lower.
However, if you're connected to an Ethernet or have another
Internet feed with sufficient bandwidth (e.g. baserate ISDN or
T1), you can receive the transmission.
- Download software for your platform (Unix Variants, PC
Windows 95, Mac). You need:
- If you start the tools by hand, and for some reason
don't want to use sdr, here are the parameters you need:
- audio (vat 4.0b2):
vat 224.2.141.240/21302/127
(4-bit PCM4 format, multicast address 224.2.141.240, port
21302, time-to-live 127)
- video (vic 2.8):
vic -f h261 -t 127 -I 6 224.2.246.5/54270
(H.261 format, time-to-live 127, channel 6, multicast address
224.2.246.5, port 54270)
