After the huge success of "The Fugitive," filmmaker Andrew Davis could pretty much write his own ticket. Unfortunately, he decided to write (and produce and direct) this picture instead. Two identical twins - one decent, one devious, both played by Andy Garcia - wrangle over 40,000 acres of prime California property. Striving for a Capra-esque blend of comedy and melodrama, Davis gives us enough plot for three movies, but not enough stuff worth watching for one. Handed a double burden, Garcia gamely plugs away, but his twins are so broadly drawn they suggest Henry Fonda in "The Grapes of Wrath" vs. "Dallas's" J.R. Ewing. Alan Arkin cheerfully steals scenes big and little as a rascally yet lovable opportunist.
