I love dark comedy, so of course I thoroughly enjoyed "The Last Supper".
Here's the premise: a group of liberal grad students meet once a week for
dinner and discussion. Everything changes when a red neck truck driver joins
the group on a rainy night and well, it becomes his last supper. Feeling
that they have actually accomplished some good, the group decides to continue
their good work by inviting more conservatives to dinner.
The liberals are Cameron Diaz, Annabeth Gish, Ron Eldard, Jonathan Penner
and Courtney Vance. And on the conservative side we have Bill Paxton, Jason
Alexander, Charles Durning, Mark Harmon and as a Rush Limbaugh clone, Ron
Perlman. Considering that this is Stacy Title's feature directorial debut,
it is amazingly sharp. In today's divisive political climate, where compromise
is a dirty word, "The Last Supper" raises not only timely questions
but moral dilemmas as well.
